About Warehouse Gym
The Warehouse health facility was born over 30 years ago.
The original grain store was leased by an avid weight trainer and turned into a body builder’s paradise. It was housed with a vast array of home made cast iron free weights and fixed weight machines.
In the early 80’s the fitness trend was born and two fitness studios were created for the lycra clad, leg warmer brigade. Classes were packed with 40 or more every hour and with little other competition in the city the Club flourished for many years to come.
With success came changes and during this time the club was bought over by some of the members. Warehouse Sports & Leisure was born. The pool was built, steam rooms and sauna’s were housed and the hard hitting weights gym was replaced with bikes and treadmills to cater for the ever growing fitness population.
With this growth came competition and both private and public facilities started to appear within close proximity. The market share was smaller and investment no longer viable for the current owner.
In 2005 the Club changed hands again starting out this time as The Warehouse Health Club. It is now one of the last remaining independent clubs left in the city. It is not supported or governed and relies on the support of it’s members to secure it’s future.
The proof is right there! The Warehouse Health Club really does pride itself in its staff, facilities and service. Throughout the changing trends, reduced market share and economic climate, The Warehouse Health Club has remained. It provides opportunities for the local community through placements and classes. Your fitness really is our business and we will continue to work hard to provide a facility young and old can enjoy.

“ If I was to sum up The Warehouse Gym in one word I would say friendly. It’s definitely an outstanding feature of Warehouse compared to the other gyms I have been a member of in the past. The staff are friendly and helpful and there’s a unique ‘family atmosphere’ I haven’t experienced in other gyms. In my observation I think there’s a couple of reasons for that: (i) because many of the staff have worked there together and socialised there together for a number of years, and so they have a vested interest in the gym’s continuing success; and (ii) because many of the customers have been coming to the gym for a long time and the staff know many of them on a personal level from team activities out with the gym such as 10k runs, hikes and bike rides. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking walking into a new gym for the first time, but as a new member I was made to feel very welcome. There’s a constant infectious and fun banter in the changing room – well in the ladies anyway, I can’t speak for the guys of course! But it all adds to the fun, friendly and family atmosphere to be found at Warehouse.
In addition, the level of tuition offered by each of the instructors is of a very high standard. Having sampled most of the classes and being a qualified fitness instructor myself I can vouch for this, and I would highly recommend joining. ”

“ I have been a Warehouse member for 20 years so that must say that it’s doing something good. What sets this club apart from others is that it is friendly and unpretentious with a real “not for posers” family feel. The expert staff have a long history in the fitness industry and always set very high training standards both in the class situation and in personal gym training, changing workouts frequently so that members are always challenged with consequent gains. I have witnessed totally unfit and very overweight beginners become keen fitness participants with the reward of significant weightloss and big improvements in their level of fitness . But what the Warehouse means to me above all is that everyone seems to be smiling there – it’s a totally feelgood place to be- and after a hectic day is a great place to de-stress. ”
